My Approach to Mentoring and Executive Coaching
I think it is easy to be a good coach and mentor. Many simple coaching tools and techniques can be quite effective in helping others grow and develop. At the same time, I think it is rather difficult to become a great coach and consistently perform at a high level and ethical standards, especially in the face of challenging and novel situations.
I believe to be a great coach requires my clear commitment to learning, diligent practice, regular feedback, and disciplined self-reflection. I believe in Action*Reflection = Learning.
The words of Michelangelo offer some useful advice: “The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high, and we miss it, but that our aim is too low, and we reach it.”
The science and practice of executive coaching is advancing rapidly and the bar for competent performance is continually being raised.
I am committing to self-reflection, being intentional about my learning, and I am continually seeking to improve my Coaching expertise.
